Philosophy

Teaching Philosophy

As an educator and artist, I am dedicated to identifying and expanding students’ gifts and skillsets within their dance practice and beyond, helping them lay a foundation for long careers on stage, in the studio, and as cultural contributors among their communities.

Student-Centered Learning

I believe that every student brings unique strengths and perspectives to the dance studio. My teaching approach focuses on recognizing and nurturing each individual’s potential while building a strong technical foundation. I create an environment where students feel safe to explore, make mistakes, and grow both as dancers and as individuals.

Technical Excellence

Technical proficiency is essential, but it must be balanced with artistic expression. I emphasize proper alignment, injury prevention, and body awareness while encouraging students to find their own voice within the technique. Through careful observation and personalized feedback, I help students develop both physical strength and artistic sensitivity.

Holistic Development

Dance education extends beyond the studio. I am committed to helping students develop critical thinking skills, historical awareness, and cultural literacy. By connecting technique to context, students understand dance as both an art form and a cultural practice that reflects and shapes society.

Lifelong Learning

I model continuous learning and professional development for my students. Whether through ongoing certification programs, workshops, or collaborative projects, I demonstrate that growth as an educator and artist is an ongoing journey. This commitment to learning creates a dynamic classroom environment where both teacher and students are engaged in discovery.

Community Building

Dance is inherently collaborative. I foster a sense of community in my classes where students support one another, celebrate each other’s successes, and work together toward common goals. This collaborative spirit prepares students for the professional dance world, where teamwork and mutual respect are essential.

Inclusive Practice

I am committed to creating inclusive learning environments that welcome students of all backgrounds, body types, and experience levels. I adapt my teaching methods to meet diverse learning needs and ensure that every student has the opportunity to succeed and thrive in the dance studio.
